Bay West is currently looking for a Project Engineer. This person will support Bay West project managers on Environmental Investigation and Remediation projects for various Federal, State, and Private sector clients. Projects include working on Superfund sites and active/former military facilities. Duties include providing high level engineering support in the areas of in situ/ex situ treatment system design; data interpretation; conceptual site model development and verification; project coordination; subcontractor oversight; and the preparation/review of technical proposals, project plans, and project completion/progress reports. Experience with CERCLA, RCRA, and MMRP regulations/programs and associated elements (e.g., PA/SI, RI/FS, Proposed Plans, RODs, DDs, RAWPs, etc.) is preferred, but not required. The project engineer will also be part of a team responsible for managing the operation and maintenance of a local ground water remediation system operated for the U.S. Navy. As part of this team, the project engineer will participate in a rotating weekend shift (one weekend out of five) responsible for the remote checking of the system (less than 30 minutes per day via laptop) to record system data. The site contract requires 24/7/365 system operation. A Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required. Preferred qualifications include a minimum of 3 years of experience with environmental consulting/contracting and the ability to accurately interpret and apply knowledge of environmental theories, processes, and regulations. Mechanical aptitude is required, along with strong technical data interpretation and report writing skills. Qualifications: The successful candidate will have the following qualifications, but not limited to: Associate's, Bachelor's or Master's degree in related field (science, engineering, environmental sciences, public health, etc.) - CHMM certification or working toward certification(s) desirable, 3-5+ years of relevant hands-on experience performing environmental compliance responsibilities including the design of auditing protocols relating to various environmental compliance programs, conducting the audit, interpreting data and reporting. Hands-on experience with Tier 2 Reporting, Air Emission Permits and Reporting, Hazardous Waste, Storm Water Run-off, Industrial Discharge Permits, Pollution Prevention Initiatives, along with related permits and licenses, etc. The successful candidate will have the ability to assist clients in establishing environmental compliance programs, conducting relevant training and assist clients with investigating compliance strategies. Must have the ability to work as part of a team and with little or no immediate supervision - strong customer service skills - must have extensive and detailed knowledge in EPA, MPCA, and related DOT compliance requirements - must be extremely proficient in writing and public speaking skills. In addition, the candidate will have the following skills: excellent communication, phone and grammar skills, strong background using computers and proficient in MS Word and MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) - ability to work with & learn software applications - must be trustworthy, dependable, flexible and creative - accuracy & attention to detail a must - ability to handle efficiently a variety of responsibilities & projects - self starter - manage fast pace and meet deadlines and hold matters in strict confidence. This is a two-year apprentice position leading to a Hazardous Waste Technician Journeyman position. Once the Apprentice Program is completed, Journeymen in this position also have a four-step enhancement program. This program provides an additional opportunity to move up a pay scale by completing additional educational requirements. The starting rate of pay for this position will be $19.01 per hour leading to a Journeyman pay scale of $29.25 per hour. Position requires a High School diploma or G.E.D and two semesters of post-high school chemistry. Must be able to lift 50 lbs, have mobility to work in restricted areas and climb ladders, and must not be allergic to chemicals, dust or solvents. Must be capable of successfully completing college level general chemistry training as part of the apprentice program.
